Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled Model S Plaid during the Battery Day event earlier today.
Plaid is a new Tri Motor All-Wheel Drive configuration of Model S, offered alongside the Dual Motor Long Range Plus and Performance configurations.
Model S Plaid features a range that exceeds 520 miles (utilizing new advancements in battery technology), with a top speed of 200mph and a 0-60 time of less than two seconds.
Tesla is advertising the vehicle with the tagline “The only thing beyond Ludicrous is Plaid.”
Customers can order Model S Plaid now on tesla.com at a starting price of $139,990, with a fully refundable $1,000 deposit. Deliveries are expected to begin in late 2021.
It’s surprising to see Tesla marketing Model S Plaid as having the “quickest 0-60 mph and quarter mile acceleration of any production car ever” when Tesla Roadster is also being released next year. This seems to imply that Plaid will be the quickest vehicle in Tesla’s lineup.
There are no aesthetic changes for those that opt for the Plaid model. We expected to see a minor facelift, although that may come next year prior to its release.
