Refreshed 2021 Model X: Updated Design, New Interior, 0-60 in 2.5 Seconds

Feb 1, 2021

Tesla has additionally released a 2021 Model X that’s been refreshed from the ground up with an updated design, a new interior, and 0-60 in 2.5 seconds.

The base Model X Long Range Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive configuration features a range of 360 miles, a top speed of 155mph, and a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds at a $89,990 starting price. Similar to Model S, this represents a $10,000 price increase compared to its predecessor.

A Plaid configuration is available, which adds a third high-performance motor for a tri-motor setup that brings the 0-60 time down to 2.5 seconds. Top speed is increased to 163mph while the range drops to 340 miles. Carbon-sleeved rotors and torque vectoring are also added.

Plaid+, which will increase range to over 520 miles and brings the 0-60 time to well under two seconds, is exclusive to Model S. Model X is limited to Long Range and Plaid configurations.

The most significant change comes to the interior, which has been completely redesigned. There are now three large wide displays throughout, tri-zone climate control, a 22-speaker premium sound system, and an innovative new steering yoke. A panoramic windshield married to an all-glass roof, complete with UV and infrared tinting, remains the standout feature.

Tesla continues to offer five, six, and seven-seat interior layouts in a newly-redesigned, simplified configurator.

A sportier exterior design features the same chrome delete that’s been carried throughout Tesla’s current lineup. 20” Cyberstream wheels are standard.

The refreshed Model X is available to order now on Tesla’s site, with deliveries beginning in April.

Real Talk

We’ve found some differences in trim between the two vehicles, with the interior on Model S outfitted with two different wood accents while Model X exclusively offers carbon fiber.

Otherwise, the interiors are similar and this redesign is effectively a higher-end version of what’s available on Model 3 and Model Y.

We feel Tesla needed this change to keep Model X feeling modern well into the future, especially as the vehicle experience changes with Full Self-Driving.

Tesla outdid themselves with this refresh on both Model S and Model Y, providing an incredibly modern interior along with range, acceleration, and even value that puts its high-end luxury sedan and SUV far ahead of its competition.
