Tesla will (finally) deliver its first Model S Plaid next month.
Elon Musk announced earlier today on Twitter that Tesla will hold a delivery event for Model S Plaid at the Gigafactory in Fremont, California.
The event is slated to take place on Thursday, June 3rd and will likely feature a number of local Tesla owners taking delivery for the first time. Elon himself is expected to make an appearance.
Model S Plaid is the fastest production car ever made, with a more-ridiculous-than-ludicrous 0-60 time of less than two seconds.
Not to be confused with Model S Plaid+, which will be even quicker and feature a range in excess of 520 miles, Model S Plaid replaced Model S Performance earlier this year following a total redesign of Model S and Model X. Following numerous delays lasting several months, customers across North America can expect to begin taking delivery over the summer.
We should point out that these delays have been completely understandable.
First off, there’s been a semiconductor shortage that is likely affecting the powerful new MCU that’s the centerpiece of a meticulously-redesigned interior. Then of course, we are still in the middle of a pandemic. Top that off with a 0-60 time that’s unmatched by any supercar and likely had to undergo rigorous testing and regulatory/safety approval, we can forgive Tesla for taking its time getting Model S Plaid out to customers.
A delivery event seems fitting considering the crowning achievement that is Model S Plaid: electric vehicles are asserting their total dominance over internal-combustion engines, and will continue to do so as Model S Plaid+ is launched later this year.
