During its annual Dream Car Week, The Price Is Right featured a new Tesla Model 3 in its showcase.
A lucky contestant had the chance to win a Long Range All Wheel Drive Model 3. Assumedly to make the game more challenging, the show chose a car in the rare Obsidian Black Metallic color which was only offered for a limited time for an additional $1.500.
Producers cite that they choose the most desirable cars that they themselves would want to feature during Dream Car Week, with Tesla’s Model 3 unsurprisingly at the top of the list.
Contrary to popular belief, the show isn’t offered free cars from manufacturers for marketing purposes (which Tesla doesn’t typically participate in anyway — their cars sell themselves.) Rather, they have relationships with local dealerships. The show offers winners the option to take the car: alternatively, they will contribute the MSRP of the car towards any other car at the dealership. Based on this, we would assume that they purchased the car directly from Tesla.
While this Model 3 didn’t include Autopilot or Full Self Driving, we have no doubt the winner took the car in this case. After all, they can add it after delivery (saving it from being subject to the tax on their winnings).
The show was recorded roughly two months ago, and aired this week. Take this time before watching the video below to guess the price to see how well you would have fared with Tesla’s fluid pricing structure.
We wish the winning contestants Gregory and Michael many happy miles in their “dream car.” If they’re ever ready to sell (maybe to switch to a Model Y in the future?) we’re here to make the process as easy as possible.
